Hey Mark: There’s never a day I don’t think about my past incarceration. It’s been years, yet I still have occasional nightmares that I’m back in prison and trying to convince everyone there…I don’t belong here and haven’t committed any crime since my release 8 years ago. But somewhere in that dream…the thought of God enters my mind; that scripture that reminds us all that when we are in trouble we can call on the name of the Lord and He will hear our prayers (paraphrased from Romans 10:13, et al). I scream in my dreams “God help Me”…. and I wake up. There is power in reaching out to the One who has done for us what no other has done.
As believers, we have the one assurance no other idiology can offer. We have a God that hears our prayers and will come to us when we’re in trouble. Why in the world would I wanna live for Satan; the great liar and coward that left me at the prison gates, when I can have angels watching over me as I sleep?
The key to freedom, true freedom…does not lay in a court motion nor an apathetic public. True freedom begins the moment you trade your guilt and shame for salvation and forgiveness. It is the single most important decision you’ll ever make.
